As humans we all are prone to the seven deadly sins. So today let’s talk about PRIDE. Our ego often replaces our need for God through our pride. GMO’s(Genetically Modified Organisms) are one such example.
One of the arguments I often hear for GMO’s is that we need them to feed the world. Interesting concept when one considers that God created a sustainable planet. Where we get it wrong is in our desire to dominate the planet rather than be the stewards that God commanded of us. Since we, in our pride, feel that we know how to grow food in a ‘better’ way than how God has given us, we have to make modifications that are more technical and scientific than faith driven.
Now, I’m not one who is so faith driven that I hate science and all that it has given us. I am one who believes that when we seek to be gods rather than having faith in God, we are worshiping the golden calf rather than lifting Him up and honoring LIFE.
The balance of LIFE is hurting right now. Why? Because we have made plants that can withstand copious amounts of toxins doused on them so that our food can look ‘perfect.’ Rather than accepting that we are part of the chain of LIFE we have decided that we know better than God and must change His design so that we can have no bugs or weeds in our industrialized farm model.
We have deemed that we know better than God through our mixing of DNA’s. Did God put fish DNA in a tomato? Insect DNA in corn? God created plants, animals and insects in the form which He has created and been allowed to evolve. The argument that fish, plants and insects have evolved in such a way as to combat some of our lack of good stewardship and natural planetary changes and we are just helping that evolution along doesn’t hold water with me. I’m not sure if a tomato would EVER have fish DNA in it.
GMO’s are an example of how narcissistic we humans have become. Our arrogance in creating a ‘better’ organism than God has or can is beyond the pale to me. GMO’s are a perfect example of a God complex run amok with the defense that one is ‘helping’ humans survive.
